The oral biography of Louise Nevelson, whose work and vision elevated sculpture to its current place of prominence in the arts.
““I don’t want to have a lot. I’ve had all kinds of jewelry... before I was twenty... I’ve tasted of almost everything on earth. It has not changed my life because it all came at a certain time when I was ready.
When I did the series of etchings called Essences, I was already in my late seventies. I went to the studio for two weeks. I stayed probably a year. If someone had come and given me the world, I wouldn’t have taken it. It was so exciting to me.
Looking back... I knew what I wanted and I felt that I had the tools to fulfill it. The work I do I’ve done basically for me. Why? Because I wanted to give meaning to my life. It’s the very best way I know how to live my life. How else could I live it?””
